Award-Winning Veterinary Medical Writer Joins VPI

Brea, Calif. (Oct. 31, 2013)Veterinary Pet Insurance Co. (VPI), the nation’s oldest and largest provider of pet health insurance, has bolstered its commitment to the veterinary community with the addition of respected and award-winning veterinary medical writer Gina Spadafori to its marketing and communications team.

“Our profession is facing many well-known challenges, from decreased veterinary visits to increased student loan debt, both of which are putting additional financial pressure on veterinary practices,” said Carol McConnell, DVM, MBA, VPI’s vice president and chief veterinary officer. “VPI was originally founded by veterinarians to offer pet insurance as a financial option for clients. With the introduction of VPI’s new “Preventive & Wellness Services” (P&WS) service earlier this year, we expanded our role as a pet health financing provider for both veterinarians and clients. With Gina joining our marketing and communications team, VPI is once again expanding our abilities by providing veterinarians with information they need to help make decisions in a complicated business environment.”

Spadafori is perhaps best known in the veterinary community as the writing partner of Dr. Marty Becker, the lead veterinarian for Vetstreet.com and a regular on “Good Morning America” and “The Dr. Oz Show.” The pair have written 14 books together, and Spadafori additionally has authored or co-authored the first three books in the “… For Dummies” pet-care series: “Dogs For Dummies,” “Cats For Dummies” (with Paul D. Pion, DVM, DACVIM) and “Birds For Dummies” (with Brian L. Speer, DVM, DABVP-Avian). She has also written a nationally syndicated pet-care column for Universal Uclick while contributing hundreds of articles for media platforms as diverse as Scholastic Magazine and AARP.com. She has also worked for the Veterinary Information Network (VIN.com), where she managed VIN’s content areas for pet owners.

Additionally, Spadafori brings high-level experience in strategic communications and brand management. She will be working with Dr. McConnell to develop content and products across all media platforms aimed at helping veterinarians to compete successfully in a challenging and evolving marketplace.
