Linda Markland Named California Veterinary Medical Associations Registered Veterinary Technician of the Year in NonPrivate Practice

Brea, Calif. (May 8, 2012) – Linda Markland, RVT celebrates three decades in the veterinary industry as the unanimous recipient of the Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) of the Year in Non-Private Practice presented by the California Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA). Markland serves as Senior Veterinary Education Specialist for Veterinary Pet Insurance Co. (VPI), the nation’s oldest and largest provider of pet health insurance. She will commemorate her twentieth anniversary with the company later this year.

The award is given to the candidate that best exemplifies a progressive RVT, utilizes their talents to the fullest potential, and distinguishes the importance of their education, certification and professional responsibilities. The CVMA Board of Governors unanimously chose Markland over a group of well-qualified nominees.

“This accolade is well-deserved and is a testament to Linda’s passion for the profession and dedication to her work,” said Carol McConnell, DVM, MBA, vice president and chief veterinary medical officer for VPI. “Her commitment to help industry counterparts is unparalleled and is an inspiration to not only all of us at VPI, but to the entire veterinary community.”

Markland was nominated for the award by Larry Kosmin, DVM, who originally employed her as head technician and hospital manager at the Tustin Avenue Veterinary Hospital in Southern California.

“To be nominated from a pool of 173 eligible CVMA members was beyond an honor,” said Markland. “However, to actually win this award was more than I ever could imagine. I’m thankful to all of my industry counterparts who value my contributions and have been so supportive over the last 30 years.”

In addition to holding guest lectures at the Professional Veterinary Assistant School and speaking at the Wild West Veterinary Conference on practice management, Markland is a reliable moderator at major veterinary conferences. She is also the chair of both the CVMA Registered Veterinary Technician Committee and the practice management track for the Pacific Veterinary Conference Committee. Additionally, Markland is a member of the Southern California Veterinary Medical Association, North American Veterinary Technician Association and VetPartners, among many other consortiums.

Markland is the seventeenth recipient of the RVT of the Year in Non-Private Practice Award. The award will be presented to her at the CVMA’s 2012 Pacific Veterinary Conference on June 29, at the Hilton Union Square in San Francisco.
